This year, Earth Angel announced our merger with TheGreenShot; The European pioneering tech company that combines financials, operations and sustainability management in a single, automated digital platform. Created by entertainment professionals and MIT engineers, its unique approach has won 13 awards in Europe and the US, including nominee for best sustainability solution at NAB 2024.

We connected with Co-CEOs of TheGreenShot, Véronique Pevtschin and Max Hermans, to reflect on the conception of the platform – And how their latest union with Earth Angel is shaking up the entertainment industry.

Max, what inspired you to start TheGreenShot?

TheGreenShot was inspired by the glaring absence of a comprehensive tool that could bridge the gap between film production finances and sustainability metrics.

Existing solutions were fragmented and couldn't easily adapt to the needs of international co-productions, especially when dealing with different languages, currencies, and local regulations. We saw an opportunity to create something that would not only streamline production processes but also embed sustainability at its core.

TheGreenShot was designed to be a versatile platform that could cater to diverse global requirements, ultimately making sustainable practices more accessible and integrated across the industry.

Véronique, how did you get involved with TheGreenShot?

My journey with TheGreenShot began after Max and Thierry, our CTO, approached me following three years of intense development. With a personal and professional commitment to sustainability, I was naturally drawn towards their project. Their vision of creating a modern and innovative solution to promote sustainability in film production resonated deeply with me. I saw an opportunity to contribute to something that aligned with my values, and I was excited to bring my expertise to the table and help shape the future of sustainable production with them.

My 15 years of experience of managing cyber security and sensitive data sharing for a large IT company also added a fundamental component to the elaboration of TheGreenShot's digital solution.

What is Earth Angel bringing to the equation?

Earth Angel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, with over a decade of on-set sustainability expertise. They have honed their skills in both management and reporting, making them a trusted name in the industry for implementing green practices on set. Their experience complements the technical capabilities of TheGreenShot, ensuring that the platform is not only innovative but also grounded in practical, real-world applications.

Together, we are creating a powerful combination of tools and expertise that will help productions meet their sustainability goals more effectively.

Why is this collaboration between TheGreenShot and Earth Angel imperative to the entertainment industry?

The partnership between TheGreenShot and Earth Angel is essential because it represents the first integrated solution that combines software with expert services. By automating the capture of carbon data and offering tailored support to producers, we are addressing a significant gap in the industry.

This collaboration is especially important as the entertainment industry faces  increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact while also remaining financially competitive. By providing a comprehensive, user-friendly solution, we are empowering producers in both the U.S. and EU to make more sustainable choices and streamline their production processes.

What are your hopes for the future of Earth Angel by TheGreenShot?

We envision a future where Earth Angel by TheGreenShot becomes a global leader in sustainability services for the entertainment industry. Our goal is to create a fully integrated suite of services that can be adapted to any region, supported by our extensive network of partners. We hope to expand our reach and impact, offering producers everywhere the tools and expertise they need to make their productions as sustainable as possible, offering green managers the digital solution that eases the data collection process.

Ultimately, we want to drive higher standards for data-based and quantified insights for sustainability in film and television, fuelling positive change across the industry.

TheGreenShot est né de l’absence d’un outil global intégrant la durabilité dans les finances de la production cinématographique.

Face à des solutions fragmentées, incapables de s’adapter aux exigences des coproductions internationales (langues, devises, réglementations), nous avons saisi l’opportunité de créer une plateforme innovante. TheGreenShot rationalise non seulement les processus de production, mais place également la durabilité au cœur de l’industrie, pour rendre les pratiques durables accessibles à tous.

Véronique, comment vous êtes-vous impliquée dans TheGreenShot ?

Mon aventure avec TheGreenShot a commencé quand Max et Thierry m'ont contactée après trois ans de développement intense. Étant déjà engagée dans le développement durable, leur projet m'a tout de suite intéressée. Leur idée de créer une solution innovante pour rendre les productions cinématographiques plus durables m'a parlé. J'ai vu là une chance de contribuer à un projet en accord avec mes valeurs. J'étais impatiente d'apporter mon expertise et de les aider à façonner l'avenir de la production durable.

Mes 15 ans d'expérience en cybersécurité et en gestion de données sensibles dans une grande entreprise informatique ont aussi été un atout pour développer la solution numérique de TheGreenShot.
